Love and Logic at CCSD #1

A few times throughout the school year, a number of the staff from CCSD #1 come together to participate in professional development.  These days are vital to ensuring our teachers and staff are actively honing their craft and being the best they can possibly be for the students.

Last Friday, we had the opportunity to attend a training in Moorcroft by Dr. Charles Fay.  Dr. Fay is the President of the Love and Logic Institute, which has been helping parents and teachers raise better humans for decades.  In fact, many of the staff in the session had either been raised on Love and Logic or used the techniques with their own children, so it was exciting to learn how effective it could be in a classroom setting.

There were some great quotes that Dr. Fay shared with the staff that, hopefully, you will find useful as well.

Failure is not final. Failure is informative.

Kids crave the very same boundaries they argue about the most.

The more words I use when things are going wrong, the less effective I become.

There will never be enough rewards, consequences, or techniques to get challenging kids to behave and learn if we are not first developing positive adult-child relationships.

If you would like to learn more about the Love and Logic Institute, they have lots of resources on YouTube and on their website at www.loveandlogic.com.  You can also view the handout the staff received at the training last Friday.

Lastly, if you are struggling with some issues when it comes to parenting, please reach out to your child’s teacher.  Not only are they highly trained, but they are also working every day with your child.  Together, you can find a plan that will work both in the classroom and at home and perhaps make life a whole lot easier for you.

Merry Christmas!
